Thorax Airbags with Head

If you want to buy a car for your family or for personal use, pay attention to the factors for car safety tests, like thorax airbags with head, to ensure that the vehicle you’re going to buy can protect your family and yourself. A car with airbags is an option that is right for you to buy. Many manufacturers nowadays make cars with airbags as one of the main safety features in their cars.

Airbags are one of the safety features of car that you should have. There are different types of airbags depending on the protection area and the type of vehicle.

Thorax Airbags with Head provide protection to the head, chest or both the body and the head depending on their design in the event of a side-impact crash. However, they are less effective than curtain airbags in rollover crashes. Thorax airbags with head protection mostly activate from the seat but some types deploy from the door. The head/thorax side airbag for both front seats provides passengers with additional protection extending from the head to the ribs in case of a side impact.

To protect the chest and ribs, some manufacturers offer a second bag, the thorax airbags which opens from the door panel or from either side of the chair. Volvo is also the first to offer such protection to the chest, with the implementation, in 1994, Side Impact Protection System (SIPS – Side Impact Protection System).

Some manufacturers offer chest airbags, which are usually installed only for the front seats.

Thorax protection for rear passengers is currently only offered by European manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. Mercedes-Benz understands the many benefits of side airbags which provide in the standard equipment on most of their car models, both for passengers in the front or rear.

Many convertible vehicles use head-thorax bags for side-impact protection. These are thorax bags with an extension that inflates upwards to protect the head. But the extension can be wobbly since it is not attached to any roof pillars. There is also a risk that the occupant’s head misses or slides off the relatively narrow head extension.
To address these drawbacks, Autoliv (Swedish-American Company) who’s expert inmanufacturing automotive safety systems for all major automotive manufacturers in the world, developed a specially designed Door-Mounted inflatable Curtain (DMIC) for convertible vehicles. This airbag is made up of a multitude of small cells in three layers (like a beehive). This ingenious structure gives it unsurpassed stability and as a result it can be used in different situations, such as rollovers, since the structure is strong enough to hold the occupants safe inside the vehicle in many severe accidents.

Cars with airbags help reduce the biggest risk of accidents while driving. In fact, side collisions present the greatest risk of injury to the occupants. This is because the impact of “area” – the space between the outer edges of the vehicle and the passenger compartment – is narrower than the front or rear of the vehicle.

In response to the call for passengers’ safety, most recent car models have been equipped with side airbags designed to protect automobile passengers’ head and chest. Airbags are important safety features that may reduce your chance of brain injury and other related injuries when car crash happens.
